Boshed

Yesterday morning Shirley and I watched a morning TV show we had never seen before - "This Morning" hosted by Rylan Clark-Neal  and Emma Willis. It is a chatty, upbeat "magazine" type programme with a generally light and smiley mood.

Now, why on earth should we be watching such a show? Mmmm... one or two of the more perceptive  blog visitors will have guessed already and I am sorry if this is becoming slightly tiresome - our son Ian was on the show with his "Bosh!" partner - Henry Firth.
They chatted with Rylan and Emma and in the studio's  kitchen area produced a meat-free chilli and cauliflower buffalo wings in batter. Timewise, it was all pretty pressurised but Ian and Henry managed to pull it off and came across as cool cats - The Bosh Boys.
After the live show they travelled by cab to Harper Collins - their publishers. They had a few jobs to do - signing six hundred copies of the cookbook  and finalising arrangements for their forthcoming promotional trip to America.

It's a hard life being the father of a celebrity chef. Thank you for your forbearance and understanding.

  1. I saw their video updates of the day on Instagram, even the bit where Ian was ringing his mum at the end!

I'm sure it took some effort to cook all that in five minutes! just a wee bit of pressure

    1. It's funny that Ian couldn't get through to his mum. I heard her mobile phone ringing in the kitchen. Then he phoned our landline and the grumpy old man answered.

    2. I'm sure there was a temporary suspension of grumpiness!

  2. I have been following them on Facebook, didn't realize they would of course have Instagram. Follow them there now. Great recipes; and lovely men to boot!

    1. Please don't boot them Elle. It's great to hear that you are enthused by their efforts.

  3. I don't watch tv but I'm sure they were great.
How are you doing, all the pressure must be awful for you?
Just kidding. You and your wife are surely just reaping the rewards of years of excellent parenting!
May the success long continue. X

  4. I am so happy for you about the joy both of your children bring you. We all like to think it was our superior parenting skills that account for our kids' success. In your job, seeing all sorts of kids everyday, observing what worked and what didn't, it's likely that helped somewhat. But mostly it's just loving your kids and teaching them life skills, and supporting the things that help them grow with confidence. It certainly makes your retirement that much sweeter, enjoy it old buddy. And no, I don't tire of hearing about them.

    1. Thank you Jan. That is a lovely comment that I appreciate very much. I agree that "loving your kids" matters more than anything. We shouldn't be moulding them into shapes that may not suit them. And how is your lovely son Bob doing these days?

    2. Bob and his girlfriend of 5 years, Anna, are still living with me. Anna is finishing her bachelor's degree and Bob is working long hours in commercial refrigeration, saving most of his money for their future. I'm grandparent and daycare provider for their puppy, Sophie, that Bob gave Anna for Christmas. They are happily moving in a forward direction.

  5. I feel like Ian is my nephew!! When are they coming to the states? Hope they come to Colorado. This state is the home of the brave weed smokers and the land of the meat and fish free eaters! Hey, by the time they get here, maybe I can take some kale from my greenhouse to a book signing. If Ian would like some down time in the mountains ........

    1. I have the feeling that it's all about New York and L.A. for them and time will be pressured... but I am sure he would love to have a kindly American aunt. You could bounce him on your knee and read him scary stories before feeding him vegan brownies.

  6. I sure wish they would come to the southeast while they're in America. Maybe they will, eventually. I have a feeling they would adore Asheville, NC for instance!

    1. I had never heard of Asheville Jennifer. I just went away to read about it. Sounds like a wonderful small city. The kind of place one might still hope to find The American Dream.

  7. Wow! They are certainly making the rounds, aren't they?! Good for them! Whoever is doing their publicity (at the publisher, I'm assuming?) gets credit for getting them out there -- and of course the boys get the MOST credit for launching this business and pouring their energy into it and making it work.

    1. The have an agent who represents some big names - including Ant and Dec, Gary Barlow and the England rugby union captain - Dylan Hartley. I am so proud of the two of them - doing all that they can to grab success by the scruff of the neck. Thanks for sending positive vibes Steve.

  8. It is wonderful to read about and see good people, who have worked hard, find success. Wishing all the best to Ian and Henry as they crack open the American market. They are like the Beatles of the vegan world :)

    1. Perhaps they will be able to turn Trump into a vegan - get him off the burgers and cheesy pizzas.

  9. This fame is all fine and good, but the important question is: Do they cook for you on a regular occasion and especially on holidays???
Congrats, Mr P, on raising children who bring you joy! I imagine it will be a rarer and rarer thing in the times to come.

    1. He lives in London - almost 200 miles south of us and through the last two years he has worked countless hours each week. No time to make meals for his ancient parents.
Thanks for calling by again Hilly. I hope you are well.

  10. I had a sort of go at one of their cauliflower recipes this evening. Well perhaps I should say that I was inspired by their recipe rather than that I followed it to the letter.

    1. Good on you Graham. I love cooking myself but I hardly ever follow recipes. To me a lot of cooking is about instinct, feeling and memory... or simply routine!

  12. Ian and Henry are getting great media coverage. How wonderful that is for them and their "brand".

I think it's great; absolutely great. I hope they hold on tight to the reins and enjoy what will be, I'm sure, a long, successful ride bringing them much satisfaction for all the hard work they've done and are doing. And may they reap many benefits from their dedication and hard work. And let no one be fooled, they certainly are hard workers.

Again I say, good on them both. :)

    1. Thank you for your positive support Lee. They have indeed worked very hard. They are off to Ireland on Sunday morning for a vegan festival where they are one of the star attractions.

    2. I meant to say, too....their site looks terrific, and later this morning (after I've finished reading the Sunday paper) I intend spending time enjoying reading their recipes.

  14. When are they coming to the U.S.? Any chance they may be in Kansas City or are they just going to either or both coasts? I'm excited for them and you & your wife with all their success!

  15. I think it’s just wonderful. And a very god cause too.
I feel just a wee bit proud too, since I was once on a desert Island with Ian’s Dad.
Oh, and I shall now frame the relish stain Neil.

  17. Bosh! has taken off like a rocket. Good work men. All that hard work needs a publicist to take it where it needs to go and they seem to have found the right one.
I recall your concern some years back when Ian lost his job in London. Closed doors offer a chance to try other paths. I will follow their career with great interest.
